(out of context) is a photo-log of my one-year stay in Tokyo, Japan, my subsequent return to Wisconsin, USA, and my further adventures in Seattle, USA. The concept is that some things are more interesting if you don't know anything about them, so let's leave it at that.
This site exists by the grace of several fine Apple computers, SubEthaEdit, OmniWeb, Transmit, Python, Markdown, html2text, EXIF.py, and Dreamhost.

(out of context) lives at metalbat.com. Let's see what else goes on there.

hunkabutta.com
It's fair to say that (out of context) as we know it would not exist without the influence of hunkabutta.com. You have to praise this guy like you should.
James Wong: Statement of Agreement
One night I got a mysterious email on my cell phone from some James Wong. It turned out that he was in Japan on a teaching program and that he had found my site. Now he's got what I think is the best Japan-photoblog around, and claims it was inspired by mine, which was in turn inspired by hunkabutta, above. Actually he's had it for a really long time, and now he's left Japan, but I had neglected to link to it.
Lane Rettig: Sunrise
The fourth site in a chain of inspiration, Sunrise uses James Wong's Statement of Agreement system and seems to have a similarly wistful atmosphere.
After years of atrocious markup, I've got this site following the rules set forth by the good people of the W3C. Enjoy correctness.
